At Michelin, Powell is accredited in Lean 6 Sigma, a staff-targeted managerial solution that seeks to enhance functionality by getting rid of waste and problems.
Immediately after earning her certification, Powell moved up to senior development engineer – one particular of the youngest engineers and couple African American females in the branch’s historical past.
She has supported plant-vast jobs and mentored many others as a result of the certification approach.
Powell also assists recruit learners into the company’s co-op method, which offers internship-like positions the place people can learn engineering principles.
She credits this system with jumpstarting her qualified journey.
That journey was virtually derailed, in substantial component, mainly because of the lack of diversity in engineering.
“When I started off faculty, I walked in, and all I saw was Caucasian folks, and that is incredibly intimidating,” Powell recalled.
“I took place to see a person other Black man or woman, and it was anyone with whom I went to significant university. Instantly, we sat beside each and every other, and we clicked. But I can, I assure you if I didn’t see her that working day. I never know if I would have continued.”
Powell now advocates for education, mental wellness, money literacy and is passionate about diversity and inclusion.
She serves as a member of Junior Achievement’s Youthful Professional Board and was most not too long ago named chair of Michelin’s ASRC diversity and inclusion management crew.
With a varied experienced background, Powell said she has acquired how to get over adversity and capitalize on chances as a young Black female engineer.
“I hope to keep on expanding equally with the business and in the local community,” Powell explained, introducing that her purpose is to encourage many others and impart the understanding she has acquired to potential generations of pushed Black ladies.
Part of her mission is becoming a manner leader.
Powell founded In shape Fashionista, an online retail retailer created to promote chic workout-put on.
She famous that Match Fashionista’s goal is to give ladies with an added enhance of confidence alongside their physical fitness journey.
“After all, when you glance excellent, you feel good…even although doing work out,” Powell exclaimed.
As a youth, Powell struggled with her health and fitness, from asthma to establishing thyroid difficulties, which induced her to get fat.
“It was not until 2019 that I made the decision to completely devote myself to transforming my brain, physique, and spirit,” Powell declared.
She said she began taking in more healthy and executing extra training.
Noting that she nevertheless had not produced the required confidence, Powell put in time wondering about boosting her self-esteem.
“I’ve usually experienced a appreciate for fashion and, I have constantly used it to categorical myself, so I made a decision to costume up and have myself at the fitness center, the identical way I would at social outings with my pals,” Powell uttered.

Right after I begun to put extra exertion into the way I seemed and went to the gym, I found my self-self confidence boosting and my willpower to get to my goals. That is when the notion of Match Fashionista was born.”
Powell dropped 65 kilos and stated she took handle of her well being.
